Get Out And Vote!

My mother emailed my siblings and I with her voting experience this morning. My sister replied to all with hers, and I just added mine. It's kind of fun comparing experiences. Mom spent about 40 minutes on the process, my sister in AL spent 1 hour 20 min, and I spent about 15, including the walk into and out of the school.

I don't care who you vote for, but if you'd care to share your voting experience, I'm curious. Mine was no lines at all, and bringing all the kids into the booth with me to explain the process. Pretty painless.

And in honor of election day, Itty Bitty Kitty Committee (http://ittybittykittycommittee.blogspot.com/2008/11/race-is-almost-over.html) has a list of presidential cats over the years. Fun!

Mine was a pretty painless experience. The hard part was getting the kids to get their shoes and coats on and get in the car. We ran into an "old" friend from pre-school in the parking lot. Then we went in where were no lines and I attempted to explain the process as we went along. At one point the light in my "booth" went out, but that was because the kid of the woman next to me accidentally yanked the cord out of their booth and they were all daisy-chained together. We had to wait in a very short line to check out because they appeared to be having a slight problem with the box that sucks in the ballots. Sierra asked me why the man was wearing a "suit," referring to a policeman. So after putting my ballot in the box, I let her ask him. He was friendly.

The thing that never fails to surprise me is that they do not check IDs, so I could go back and pretend to be someone else in the district, as long as I know their address and name and they are registered and didn't already vote.

My place had signs posted with all of the acceptable IDs and they were definitely checking them. There were policeman at our place too, but I only had Josie with me and she just did a lot of people watching....oh, and the poll watcher started making faces and playing peek-a-boo with her when I was voting so Jo was pretty happy about that.

I stopped off after work w/ C in tow to drop off my absentee ballot. There was no wait at 6 PM, but I understand from talking to our neighbor, a poll worker, that there was a long-ish line this morning when they opened and there was a constant stream of voters all day.

This is the last election with polling places. Next election, Washington is moving to all mail-in ballots.

Oregon does all mail in ballots and I like it!
